On informed opinion...

There has been a certain bill passed in a certain country over the weekend. It has caused a big, rather big stir in certain circles, but it has certainly left me wondering (yes, the repeated "certain" is making a point): just how many people did actually know what they were talking about? I am taking sides here, because it concerns very much both "parties" (no pun intended...). Those who hail it as the "bestest good news since the Gospel" as well as those who would call it Satanic verses (yes, that pun was intended) - I am wondering how many of them have relied on what others have told them, or have blindly just jumped on a bandwagon to result in their respective reactions? I said the same thing about the pastoral letter from Benedict XVI, and I think it holds in this context: if you have an opinion, at least make some effort to check your details. Yes, in a way, I am asking folks, especially in public forums to actually read the 2500 pages of legislation - instead of making some catchy half-baked assessment...in a way, it is at least a scary thought that elected representatives of a country decided on some major policy change without knowing all of its implications (and, to emphasize it once more, that concerns both sides...).
