In the UK, there is not that much of a trend in big "marketing" of Christian speakers and the alike. Yet, here and there you see it happening, and, I am simply not sure about this.
Rob Bell, for example, is on his UK tour at the moment (before heading to Australia and New Zealand...). The closest event is in Swansea, tomorrow night...the schedule for the evening says that the event starts at 8 pm, and will be over by 10 pm. Tickets are £9. I am wondering, cynic that I am, where the money goes, because that is one good hourly rate...
Also, there is a healing conference to be scheduled in Bristol. 3 days. £75 (concessions for students: £60). No food included. I am hesitant about this as well... that is a lot of money, especially for students.
Overall, if these kind of things have a pricetag attached that keeps on growing, it has absolutely nothing to do anymore with "good news" or the proclamation thereof. They become "religious" events - and with religious, I am referring to Barth's definition of religion as "the concern of godless people."
